Corrosion Monitoring , Inspection and Testing

Course Description:

Unlock the secrets to combating the costly impact of corrosion in the industry through the power of effective corrosion testing and monitoring. In the face of harsh operating conditions, environmental factors, and corrosive chemicals, industrial equipment, installations, and plants face relentless corrosion challenges. The consequences can be dire, ranging from structural failures and containment breaches to expensive repairs, product contamination, environmental harm, personnel risk, and damaged public confidence. Our dynamic and immersive training course immerses you in the world of corrosion prevention and monitoring, specifically tailored to the oil and gas exploration and production industry.

Designed for both industry veterans seeking a refresher and newcomers looking to establish a strong foundation, this meticulously crafted three-day program provides the knowledge, tools, and strategies to comprehend, analyze, and conquer corrosion-related monitoring and inspection issues. With an emphasis on practical solutions, participants will explore an array of crucial topics, including:

Key Deliverables:

Day 1:

  • Introduction to corrosion monitoring, inspection, and testing
  • Fundamentals of corrosion and electrochemistry
  • Corrosion damage mechanisms
  • The use of electrochemical techniques in development of corrosion monitoring methods
  • Economics of corrosion monitoring and inspection

Day 2

  • Corrosion monitoring techniques: classification (e.g. direct vs indirect, intrusive vs non-intrusive, in-line vs off-line), applications, advantages and limitations, and more
  • Corrosion probes and coupons insertion and retrieval, calculation of corrosion rate
  • Sand erosion monitoring and sand production detection
  • Advanced corrosion monitoring techniques
  • Corrosion monitoring locations and method selection
  • Mark up isometrics for Thickness Measurement Locations (TML) and Condition Monitoring Location (CML)
  • Applicable standards for corrosion monitoring and inspection

Day 3

  • Application of corrosion monitoring techniques for upstream sector (bottom-hole and wellhead, pipelines and flowlines, production platforms and FPSO)
  • Application of corrosion monitoring techniques for refinery and gas processing plants
  • Intelligent pigging for pipelines and flowlines

Day 4

  • Techniques for monitoring and inspection of Corrosion Under Insulation (CUI)

Who Should Attend:

This course is specifically designed for seasoned professionals in the oil production and refinery sectors who possess a minimum of two years of industry experience. Ideal attendees include design engineers, production engineers, oilfield contractors, maintenance planners, service company representatives supporting oil production, as well as corrosion engineers.

Prerequisite:

Previously held senior technical and leadership roles with Foster Wheeler, Technip, ADMA-OPCO, National Petrochemical Company of Iran, and British Gas.He is an approved AMPP/NACE instructor for the refinery course as well as basics of corrosion course.

Dr. Aliakbar Oskuie is a corrosion expert with over a decade of experience in Asset Integrity Management and Risk-Based Inspection. He obtained his BSc in Materials Science and Engineering in 2006, followed by an MSc in Corrosion Engineering in 2008. He received his PhD in 2013, and his thesis was on the study of environmental factors’ influence on Stress Corrosion Cracking (SCC) in pipeline steels within high pH soils. His career in the Oil & Gas sector commenced shortly after graduation, where he rapidly advanced to roles as a team lead and group manager in an Asset Integrity Management consultancy firm. Since 2022, he has actively engaged in Corrosion Under Insulation (CUI) Monitoring. In 2022, Aliakbar received the KTP fund award, collaborating with Cranfield University and CorrosionRADAR Ltd. to research CUI and its risk assessment. Currently, he holds the position of senior project engineer at CorrosionRADAR Ltd., providing CUI monitoring services to industrial plants
